From Paris 1900 to Paris 2024: the Grand Palais and its Nave, an architectural jewel restored right on time to meet sportsmen and women!

A regular venue for artistic and cultural events for over a century, the Grand Palais is reopening its majestic restored Nave for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games to become the place for fencing and taekwondo events! And don't forget: this is not the first time the building has been used to host sporting competitions.

The Grand Palais, a historic monument renowned for its elegance it was built for the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition, is having its Nave being transformed into a major sports venue for Paris 2024!

The restored Nave of the Grand Palais will be hosting a number of sporting events for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Here is the calendar of events:

  • Fencing - from 27 July to 4 August

  • Taekwondo - from 7 to 10 August

  • Para-taekwondo - 29 to 31 August

  • Wheelchair fencing - 3 to 7 September

A century of sporting exploits in the Grand Palais

Inaugurated in 1900 for the Paris Universal Exhibition, the Grand Palais was designed to host the biggest cultural events in Paris.

For over a century, it has been the venue for numerous art, technical and trade fairs, as well as events dedicated to science and the arts. But that's not all!

The Grand Palais has a long history of sporting success! Being already an Olympic venue a hundred years earlier but also the site of the first French fencing championship in 1937, it hosted gymnastics, high jump and equestrian competitions: the Grand Palais is no stranger to sports!

An emblematic venue of timeless elegance, the Nave of the Grand Palais is reopening its doors after several years of restoration work to serve as a showcase for fencing, armchair fencing, taekwondo and para-taekwondo athletes.

Several thousand spectators are expected to flock to the magnificently restored glass roof, bathed in light, to write a new chapter in the history of the Grand Palais, before its complete reopening in June 2025.
