The Grand Palais is completing the biggest renovation project in its history. For the past two years, director Stefan Cornic has been tracking this metamorphosis with his camera, giving an overview of the multiple events that have taken place in the building since it was inaugurated in 1900. A documentary to watch again and again on France 5 and france.tv!
Behind the scenes of the restoration work...
New circulation spaces and transparency, restoration of roof sculptures, impressive volumes revealed by demolition work, pouring of the new slab in the Nave... you too can experience the last two years of our huge restoration project!
Made alongside the workers and teams from Chatillon Architectes and GrandPalaisRmn, the documentary film takes a behind-the-scenes look at the work. It is a choral account of the history of this iconic 120-year-old Parisian building.
...a place steeped in history
Take a journey through the archives and rediscover the Grand Palais, an immense covered square surrounded by flexible, adaptable buildings. Since the 1900 Universal Exhibition, it has hosted art exhibitions, motor shows, aviation shows, children's shows, household arts shows and much more. It even served the army during the world wars and gave birth to the Palais de la Découverte.
And what about today? The Grand Palais is due to reopen in three stages: during the 2024 Olympic Games, with fencing and taekwondo competitions in the Nave; in autumn 2024, with the return of trade fairs and exhibitions; and in June 2025, with the opening of the major exhibitions.
Until then, we hope you enjoy this spectacular renaissance!
